Thank you Old Brooklyn News!

I wish to thank Old Brooklyn News and my friends Robyn Sandys, Executive Director of OBCDC and Lori Peterson, Residential Marketing Manager for publishing my reminiscent story on Memphis School. This is essentially the same story that was posted on this blog from October 2009. This story was published in the February 2010 issue of Old Brooklyn News and can also be viewed on-line at www.oldbrooklyn.com
Look under the February 2010 issue.

Thank you Robyn and Lori!

The Memphis School story as it appeared on page 4. Soon after the story appeared in the Old Brooklyn News, I received some interesting e-mail comments from students that attended the school from the 1940's through the 1970's. Some still live in the Old Brooklyn area! Double click on this image to see closer, then click a third time for super magnification.

Please e-mail me your Memphis School story to: gregoryz@centurylink.net

Memphis School Class Photos Wanted!

Photo of Greg Zaryk, Memphis Class of 1972
Memphis School Class Photos Wanted! I would like to post "group" class photos (such as the one below from 1941) from any class year...If you have any class photos from Memphis School, please contact me!

Above, my "not so happy" 6th grade school picture from Mrs. Bridges' class, (1972).

Please let me know if you have any photos or comments by leaving a comment on this blog with your contact information. Or e-mail me your Memphis School stories/photos to: gregoryz@centurylink.net As always, if you want to enlarge any picture on this Blog to see closer...just click on it!

Also, if you have any teacher stories or recollections about
the "red-headed" librarian from the old South Brooklyn Branch Library, let me know! She was a great lady! I always thought she was around 100 years old!

Thank you!
Greg

Old Memphis School Artifacts

Old "heavy" wooden swings. These hurt like heck if you didn't get out-of-the-way fast enough! Not like the rubber swings of today.
This porcelain doorway plate was installed somewhere around 1913 and was removed by Memphis' last "official" owners in 1995, after 82 years! Click on any image to see closer.
I found this school safety patrol badge in one of the janitor's closets in the school's basement shortly before the school was demolished. If I remember correctly, this badge was attached to a shawl that you wore over your shoulder and you were given a flag to wave at the street corner you were assigned to.
School property!
Do you remember any of these? Click on any photo to see bigger. After you enlarged your photo, click on it a second time to supersize the image.
